‘Bear-ly a Picnic’ – Family Discovery Day

Date: Saturday 25^th August 2012.

Time: 11.00am – 4.00pm

Location: Natural Surroundings, Letheringsett, nr Holt, NR25 7JN

Cost: Special Introductory Price!! £7 per person or £25 for a family and friends, ticket of up to 5 people (adults and children). This fee includes entrance to the gardens & reserve as well as the self guided activities. Places are limited so booking is essential!

If you go down to the woods today, you’re in for a big surprise….!

Belladonna Bushcraft have teamed up with the wonderful wildlife gardens and nature reserve of ‘Natural Surroundings’ to gather families (and bears!) together for ‘Bear-ly a Picnic’. Discover what bears really do in the woods… by sharing a collection of outdoor self guided family experiences, if you can ‘bear with us’!

Bring your own picnic, or buy soup, snacks and drinks in the lovely ‘cafe in the woods’ on site. Then take part in a variety of self guided outdoor experiences at your own pace. Activities available will include;

• Bear-ly a house – den building.
• Bear tags – woodland pendant making.
• Going on a bear hunt – woodland tracker trail.
• Bear Grills – toasting marshmallows and making smores.
• The Bear Facts – nature based quiz.
• Bear-ly a Boat – make your own boat to race on the river.
• Bear foot – the great bear boat race.

Plus more. We anticipate that it would take at least 2 hours for a family to complete all the activities available. Natural surroundings is a wonderful site too and has much more to look at including – red squirrels, hedgehogs and harvest mice, a human sundial, an unnature trail and ‘badger’s house’ (Please visit Natural Surroundings website for more information).

Bring a bear (or any other friendly creature!), to experience the day with you, they like a day out to the woods too! No Grizzly bears please….only smiling and laughing ones!

‘Bear-ly a Picnic’ is open to and will welcome all families, however families with primary school aged children are likely to get the most from this experience.

Location:
Natural Surroundings is an 8 acre site of wildlife gardens and nature reserve located within the Bayfield Estate in Letheringsett (near Holt). They have been under new ownership since 2011 and much of the site has been renovated. They have a cosy cafe and shop which sells native plants, seeds and a variety of wildlife supplies. You can find Natural Surroundings just off the Blakeney Road between Letheringsett and Glandford by following the brown signs for the ‘wildflower centre’. Facilities:
All the activities for the day are based in the outside, so please make sure you have the ‘Bear Essentials’ of outdoor clothing and footwear to ensure you are comfortable. The grounds are a mix of gardens and woodland trails boarded by the river (some of the lower woodland paths can be muddy in wet conditions). Families can either bring their own picnic or purchase food and drink from the lovely cafe on site. Natural Surroundings does have indoor facilities including; toilets, cafe, shop and a small ‘classroom’ however we will be focusing on the natural world outdoors for the event. In the occasion of a rainy British summers day we will rig shelters over some of the activities of the day, however some activities (such as the exploratory trails and quizzes) will be in the woodland and gardens so full waterproofs are recommended. In the unlikely event that the weather is too dangerous to undertake the event, families will be informed the morning of the event of cancellation and either given a full refund or their booking transferred to a rescheduled event.
