Description:
The OCN Level 2 Forest School Assistant course is a nationally recognised qualification and is accredited through the Open College Network (OCN). It is aimed at anyone over the age of 18 wishing to be qualified as assistants at Forest School. It will develop practitioners’ skills and ideas for outdoor learning opportunities and enable candidates to fully support an existing Forest School.

This new 2 day Level 2 Module is designed for practitioners who have already gained, or are in the process of gaining the OCN Level 1 Forest School qualification to build their skills and progress to Level 2 and become Forest School Assistants. The course is structured to recognise prior learning and go deeper into all aspects of Forest School philosophy.

Forest School Assistant training consists of 6 OCN credits contained in two units of study:

  • Practical skills for the Forest School Assistant.
  • Supporting learning and development at Forest School.

The training equates to 60 hours of work and is a combination of training, practical skills assessments, supporting an established Forest School and written coursework.

Entry Criteria:

  • Be over 18 years of age.
  • Have experience of working with children/young people.
  • Have a current enhanced CRB disclosure.
  • Have access to a Forest School programme run by a qualified Level 3 FS Leader.

Course Itinerary:

  • The 2 day intensive training – 8th & 9th March 2012*.
  • Supporting a Forest School programme – March–May 2012.
  • Workbook hand-in date – 8th June 2012.

* If you have not yet undertaken/started Level 1 training, but wish to do this Level 2 module to gain a Level 2 qualification; there is a Level 1 Forest School course in Norfolk on 5th & 6th March 2012. Candidates could book onto this Level 1 course as well as this Level 2 module to gain the Level 2 Forest School Assistant qualification. Please view there website for further details on this here.
